Showboaters/Zumba

Come join the Zumba party! A fun, energetic workout to a combination of Latin and international music. Each session is made up of 3 parts: a warm-up part, a dance/exercise part and a cool-down part. No dance or Zumba experience is needed, just a desire to move your body to music. Enjoy being part of a group, dancing and exercising to lively music! Wear comfortable clothes and sneakers. Please bring a water bottle to the class.
Songwriting

This class will cover basic elements of music dynamics and theory including rhythm, timing, tonal recognition, basic sight reading of sheet music, elements of song construction, and creation of musical scoring for film. Students will exercise auditory, memory, and social skills while working together on interactive lessons.
Scriptwriting for Stage & Screen

Provides an opportunity for students with a strong writing interest to learn processes of creative scriptwriting for stage and screen. Materials generated from this class will be performed on camera during the session and compiled for future use by students in stage and screen acting classes.
Academic Workshop

Will introduce/reinforce beginning concepts of language decoding. Instruction incorporates increased word recognition and writing readiness. This approach is designed to provide students with ongoing interactive engagement, ongoing use of skills, and continual concept exposure throughout the session.
On-Camera Acting

Introduces authentic performance and personal interactive skills to students interested in film and television performance. Footage from this class will be included in a summer episode of CAA’s “Spotlight” original television program aired on CreaTV.
Film-Making

Involves the planning, production, and end-of-session premiere of an original short film featuring class members. The themes and experiences within this project are designed to evolve with the interests and goals of the student actors. The final film will be featured at CAA’s 4th Annual Film Festival.
Television Production
Tuesday, 12:30 – 2:00PM

Provides the opportunity for students to practice behind-the-camera skills involved in filming, directing, and technical production. Activities include exposure to episode preparation, set and lighting design, camera use, editing techniques, and interactive communication with the television station. The class will culminate with the airing of an episode on CreaTV, produced by and featuring the class group.
Book-Making Arts

In this class, we will be creating the art work for "A Once Upon A Time" story created by our students in the Reading 101 class. We will use paint, watercolor and type to create the illustrations for our books. At the end of the session, we will assemble our books using a traditional bookbinding technique. This class is very creative and so much fun. $10 supply fee.
Explores beginning art techniques in watercolor, printmaking, collage and sculpture.
Students learn to combine color, images, shapes and words like you see on t-shirts, gift wrap, CDs or cards.
Students create many ceramic pieces over the course. The focus of this class is to usher the students down a path of creativity. We will work on improving their fine motor skills, creative thinking and problem solving.
CAA artists support Performance for Children’s Theater and the Storybook Spoof Troupe creating props and backgrounds out of paper mache, paint, felt and other mixed media materials.
It's time to get healthy! Students will learn the basics of exercise, nutrition and overall wellness. The class will be taught through video lectures where the children will learn tips on making healthy food choices and make weekly exercise goals. We will host a weekly Skype call to discuss what they viewed in the lecture, answer questions, as well as provide support, encouragement and motivation! The students will also learn how to use a blog which will deliver daily tips to their email accounts. We will meet a few times throughout the semester, including a kick-off session, to teach movements and address individual’s needs in person.
Provides actors with principles of acting for the camera. Skills covered are: “commercial” and “theatrical” screen acting styles, connection to other actors, working within the camera’s frame, and television variety show performance as they rehearse for our original television program “CAA Spotlight”.
Graduate students will build knowledge of elements including blocking, choreography, musical interpretation, acting direction, rehearsal techniques, technical stagecraft, scheduling, ticketing, and marketing of the show.
Focuses primarily on live stage performance including dancing/singing/acting work in production numbers and showcases. Students will learn and rehearse pieces to be performed at college and community-based events.
Class participants will follow the spine of a story and tell it in their own words. Class improves the the story line scene by scene and builds the script as they go. The class will perform at the end of the semester for family and friends.
Provides students with practice using puppeteering skills and rehearsing a show. They will gain the experience of being part of a touring ensemble as well as a teacher/behavior model to children while taking the show to local classrooms and sharing the messages within their scripts.
Students take Flip cameras into the community and film local for-profit and non-profit businesses upon their request for the first hour of each class. They edit their films into marketing videos which will be sent digitally to the local business to add to their marketing portfolio.
Students will learn to setup and maintain equipment used by CAA performing groups with the ultimate goal of building a tech crew that will report directly to department heads and run technical aspects of our performing events. Emphasis is on building sets and building student confidence in taking on the responsibilities of a technical crew for CAA events.
Lab is available to students who have done the required pre-requisite work and are interested in being part of our core studio team of producers and technicians as we film the television program “CAA Spotlight” at CreaTV studios (channels 15/27/28). Teaches students the concepts of ensemble singing and principles of vocal performance including rhythm, tempo, tone recognition, articulation, projection, dynamics, and vocal range. Class activities will involve participation in group-oriented exercises and vocal rehearsals. Culminating class experience will involve community and on-stage performance.
Students learn the basics of public speaking and how to speak confidently in any situation. The course will cover reducing nervousness when in front of a crowd, speech planning and writing and fundamentals of speech delivery.
Introduces concepts of word recognition and phonemic awareness. Initial curriculum will focus on teaching tools that incorporate vocabulary applicable to classes at the College of Adaptive Arts. This approach is designed to provide students with maximum engagement, use of learned skills, and repetition of class content throughout the week.
